Two murder suspects in custody are still being questioned by detectives after the fatal stabbing of a 59-year-old man. Sidney Anthony Palmer, died on Saturday, September 30, after being stabbed in the chest in Conduit Street, in Leicester.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident. The men remain in custody, where they are being questioned.

A third man, aged 27, was also arrested but released with no further actions. Leicestershire Police says it is working the clock to gather information about the case.

Detectives are appealing to speak to the driver of a taxi which was travelling on Conduit Street at the time the incident was unfolding, at around 7.30pm on Saturday. The force said it wants to speak with the driver or the passengers "as soon as possible".

Sidney, known to his family and friends as 'Sid' was well-known locally. His daughter, Leanne, said he had "many friends who will miss him dearly", in a statement released by the police.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski, who is leading the investigation, said: "We continue to appeal for information and for people to come forward and speak to us. If you were in Conduit street between 7pm and 7.30pm on September 30, or were driving nearby and witnessed this incident we really need to hear from you.

"My team are working around the clock to ensure that we gather the right information and evidence in this case and we cannot do it without the support of the public and those that witnessed this tragic event. Sid was known locally by lots of people and we would urge any of them to come forward with information they may have heard or discussed as it may help our enquiry."
