Late strikes from substitutes Jordan Davies and Steven Fletcher handed Wrexham what was a deserved victory but it looked for so long that the Dragons would be denied. The visitors raced into an early lead at the Racecourse as the hosts' defensive woes came back to haunt them.

Elliot Lee pulled one back before the break but the second half was a frustrating one for the most part as Phil Parkinson's men looked as though they were going to be defeated. That was until the Reds boss threw on Fletcher and Davies and that duo had a decisive effect on the outcome.

The Dragons didn't get off to the best of starts however and they were behind after 15 minutes as a slack bit of defending saw Matt Smith nip in at the back post and head home. Wrexham did improve after that and should have levelled in the 23rd minute but Paul Mullin blasted wildly over from a one-on-one situation.

Unfortunately for Parkinson's men it got worse in the 36th minute as Matthew Lund tapped home following an Okonkwo save that he could only parry. Thankfully for the home fans though, the Reds halved the deficit a few minutes later when a James McClean corner found Elliot Lee at the back post and he made no mistake with the header to grab his eighth goal of the campaign.

That's how it stayed at the interval and although Wrexham had probably been the better side it was the Greater Manchester based outfit who held the half time advantage. The second half was largely dull for the first twenty minutes as neither side created much of note.

Wrexham started to be a little bit more creative when Fletcher and Davies replaced Palmer and James in the 64th minute but still Salford held their nerve. Jordan Davies had a great chance with a header in the 78th minute but Alex Cairns made a smart save.

Wrexham then had two outstanding chances in the space of a few seconds but Fletcher couldn't slot past Cairns at the far post and then Davies headed wide from a great position. The two subs would eventually make their mark however as the game turned on its head in the space of a minute.

In the 88th minute Steven Fletcher levelled the scores before Jordan Davies dramatically slotted home from close range less than a minute later to lift the roof off the Racecourse Ground. That's how it stayed as the Reds saw out the game to a rapturous ovation from the Racecourse faithful.
