Hometown hero Jordan Davies has found it difficult to break into the starting XI at Wrexham AFC this season, but the 25-year-old attacking midfielder has enjoyed a superb week. The 'Coedy Assassin', as he is affectionately known, put in a brilliant display at Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Trophy last week, bagging himself a fantastic goal in the process.

Davies then scored a last gasp winner against Salford City last weekend to seal all three points for Phil Parkinson's men. Speaking to North Wales Live, the Coedpoeth-born star spoke about his late winner on Saturday and his hopes for the rest of the campaign.

Davies said: "It was special. We've become accustomed to late winners at the Racecourse in recent years but every time it happens it feels so special and for me to get the winner this time around in front of the Tech End was amazing, I'm still buzzing."

Davies then spoke about his road back to first team contention. He said: "It's been tough, I've had the knee injury and haven't had a consistent place in the team. That's down to me picking up niggles and other people's form.

"But I just stick with it, it is tough, mentally it's tough. But I remember my motivations - family and things like that - and hopefully when the chance arrives I try and grab it with both hands."

Nobody inside the club is making any secret of the Dragons' ambitions this season. Despite only returning to the Football League in the summer, Phil Parkinson and co aren't planning on hanging around in League Two for very long.

When asked about his and the team's ambitions, Davies said: "We set out with promotion as the aim and if we don't achieve that we'll see it as failure. We're grinding away and it's a long season - I don't think we've fully clicked yet and when we do completely click, we'll get into that top three spot come the end of the year."
