Joe Hart offered Celtic transfer affirmation as Brendan Rodgers sends 'bright' star reminder it’s a team sport

Joe Hart was crucial for Celtic when they badly needed him to be – and Brendan Rodgers reckons a new goalkeeper isn't on his mind 'for now'.

The former England international couldn't hide his elation, and partial relief, when James Forrest slammed home the third goal to seal the three points after making a top stop at the other end at 2-1. It wasn't enough for Rodgers to be convinced by his Scottish Premiership league leaders as he revealed he's never been angrier than he was in the McDiarmid Park dressing room at half time. The Irishman got the reaction he needed with Mikey Johnston turning his fortunes around off the bench, making a huge impact.

And while Rodgers has been talking nothing but transfer plans in the last week or so, admitting there's a real need for quality, the spot in between the sticks isn't one on the major priority list. He wants to beef up the Hoops with talent across the next few windows, and reckons recent Ireland call up Johnston is one of the best he's seen at the club in certain traits, but that he must do more for the whole side.

Hart looked culpable at Saints goal but asked if a new keeper was on his January shopping list, he said: “It’s not one for now. I want to improve the squad over my time here, and particularly over these next couple of windows.”

On Johnston, he added: “He was outstanding, really bright. He’s one of the best players I’ve seen at the club in one-v-one. How bright he is, how clever he is. If he can just take on board the team concept and when we don’t have the ball, he’s one you can put in.”
