Tourist numbers in Berlin continue to rise

Berlin ist als Reiseziel gefragt

The tourism industry in Berlin is continuing to recover, but is still nowhere near the level it was before the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year, 12.1 million guests visited the capital and accounted for 29.6 million overnight stays. This is according to the figures from the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistical Office, which were presented on Friday by Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) and the Managing Director of the tourism company Visit Berlin, Burkhard Kieker. In 2022, there were 10.4 million guests and 26.5 million overnight stays.

Majority of Berlin guests from Germany

However, in the record year 2019 before the pandemic began, the number of overnight stays was significantly higher at 34.1 million. Nevertheless, the proportion of international overnight stays last year exceeded 40% for the first time since 2019. However, the majority of visitors to Berlin (59.7%) continue to come from Germany. In terms of visitors from abroad, the UK is in first place with 1.3 million overnight stays, followed by the USA with 1.2 million and the Netherlands with 843,000 overnight stays.
