Southampton vs Preston postponed after massive fire breaks out near St Mary’s
A fire broke out near St Mary's Stadium.
A large fire has broken out near a football stadium in Southampton.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to the blaze affecting three industrial units on Marine Parade, near St Mary’s Stadium, just after 1pm on Tuesday.
Up to 18 fire engines and other specialist vehicles were in attendance at the scene, the service said.
One person has been treated by paramedics at the scene, according to local reports.
People in the area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke.
St Mary’s Stadium is home to Southampton Football Club, who announced their Championship match against Preston on Wednesday evening had been postponed due to the incident.
In a statement, the club said the fire had “caused significant disruption in the area with road closures around the stadium still in place as fire crews continue to deal with the situation”.
