A frustrated Willie Peters pointed to Hull KR's last play options as the difference as Rovers fell to a first home defeat of the season and a second successive Super League loss. Peters hailed his KR side as 'the best team' in an entertaining contest as they went down 22-20 to Warrington Wolves at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Rovers came from 10 points down and had led going into the closing stages, but ultimately paid the price for a series of wasted opportunities with the ball, as the KR coach admitted to.

"I thought we were the better team aside from the first period and the back end of the first half, there was a lot to be positive about," explained Peters. "When we were in set for set rugby, we were the best team. We need to do some work on the last tackle play. If those last passes stick, who knows?!"

Rovers found themselves trailing early on when George Williams cut through to touch down after a lapse in the defence of the home side. When Danny Williams then saw his score chalked off for touching down on the deadball line it looked like KR had escaped with a let off, but within minutes a poor reaction to a kick allowed Matty Ashton to score in the corner.

A response was needed, it swiftly came from Tyrone May out-jumping Matt Dufty to score and then Ryan Hall doing Ryan Hall type things to finish in the corner, but just as they started well so Warrington turned it on to end the half with two further tries to lead by six points.

Oliver Gildart's try with 22 minutes to go brought KR to within two points before May's brilliant pass put Tom Opacic in for the hosts to take a two point lead with both conversions missed. But it wasn't enough after Dufty finished a training ground scrum play to bookend the scoring for the visitors.

"I'm gutted for the players, most of the time you put in an effort like that you win," added Peters. "Our start was poor but we found ways to hand momentum back and that's what I'm most gutted about.

"We pride ourselves on being resilient and we do fight and work hard for each other. You can't knock the players' effort, at 10-0 a lot of teams would have fallen over."

Rovers will lick their wounds and after three days off will begin preparation for a game at Huddersfield Giants next Saturday evening.
