  • Azzurri gain another big scalp

There was no luck involved in the victory today for Italy.

From start to finish, their tactics and game plan worked brilliantly.

  • Sad end to legendary test career

George North has done it on the big stage for some 14 years.

Both for Wales and the British Lions, North has been one of the best players in world rugby.

Sadly, he limped off with an injury in the final few minutes but he got a hero's send off from the fans.

North would have hoped for victory in his last game but it was not to be.

Italy are currently level with Scotland and France in the table.

If either of those sides suffer heavy defeats today, The Azzurri could move further up the table.

What an end to their campaign with victories over Scotland and Wales.

The referee's whistle brings the game to a close.

Another big win for the Italians, to end the campaign on a high.

For Wales, it is the wooden spoon.

  • Wales 21-24 Italy

80+1. Grady dribbles the ball past an Italian and then runs clean through to the try line.

It gives the Welsh fans something to celebrate at the end.

They send the conversion over but will still be resigned to the wooden spoon.

  • Try - Mason Grady (Wales)

  • Wales 12-24 Italy

    79. George North is getting a standing ovation as he limps off the pitch injured in his final game.

Rowlands managed to get over the line after some stout defence from the visitors.

Ioan Lloyd sends the conversion over the posts.

  • Try - Will Rowlands (Wales)

  • Wales 7-24 Italy

    77. Wales drive towards the Italian line with a penalty in hand.

As they try to get over the tryline, Italy somehow regain the ball.

The referee brings it back for the Welsh penalty.

  • Wales 7-24 Italy

    75. You've got to feel for the Welsh fans.

With the cheapest ticket for the game being in excess of £70, that is a lot to pay to come and see your nation get schooled by Italy.

It sums up a very disappointing campaign for Gatland's side.

  • Wales 7-24 Italy

    73. That long kick puts the result to bed now.

Italy show how much it means to them as they celebrate the penalty.

This is going to be a second consecutive win in Cardiff for the Italians.

  • Penalty - Martin Page-Relo (Italy)

  • Wales 7-21 Italy

    71. That kick from Garbisi may well seal the win for the visitors.

Wales now need two converted tries to just draw.

  • Penalty - Paolo Garbisi (Italy)

  • Wales 7-18 Italy

    69. Penalty is awarded to Italy as Wales are offside.

The amount of penalties the hosts have given away today is insane.

It takes the pressure off Italy yet again.

  • Wales 7-18 Italy

    67. Wales are throwing everything at Italy now.

The crowd are getting behind them, hoping for the sort of performance they saw against Scotland.

This will be a stern defence of the Italy defence.

  • Wales 7-18 Italy

    65. After a lengthy time to review, it is deemed that Dee grounded the ball for a Welsh try.

It is the first time today that the home fans have had something to cheer.

There is still time left for the Welsh to turn this game around.

Costelow puts the conversion over comfortably.

  • Try - Elliot Dee (Wales)

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    63. Dyer breaks through and passes it to Williams.

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    61. Gatland knew his young side would take time to gel.

Not quite sure whether he thought it would mean a wooden spoon.

Pani and Grady collide as they go for a loose ball, nasty hit for both.

It looks like both players will have to go off for a HIA.

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    59. Williams sends a kick downfield but Garbisi takes it well.

His handling has been brilliant today.

The speed of Italy's rucks today has been so much better than the hosts.

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    57. Finally Wales wake up their own fans.

They break through the Italian lines and drive towards the line.

Once again though poor discipline from Wales gifts a penalty to the visitors.

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    55. Garbisi is penalised for a knock on.

It was a big kick from Wales, which he had to run onto.

The referee decides the challenge was fair so it will be a Welsh scrum.

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    53. This is all going according to plan for Italy.

They would have expected more of an attempt of a comeback in this second half from the hosts.

The visitors are coping with all they have to throw at them.

  • Wales 0-18 Italy

    51. Italy have a lineout deep inside their own half.

A poor pass allows Wals to intercept, they don't utilise it but the referee brings it back for a Welsh scrum.

It is very quiet in the Principality Stadium at the moment.
