A house in Greater Manchester was swept off the market less than a week after being put up for sale - despite having a hefty price tag. The 'time capsule' property in Altrincham, Trafford, which has been in the same family since the 60s, proved to be a hit with buyers looking for a big project.

Personal estate agent Gareth Yates said the house sparked interest as soon as the 'for sale' sign was pitched outside, with seven viewings taking place before it even hit the online property portals.

The detached house ended up attracting 28 viewings within just four days after going live - and sparked seven offers - all over the asking price bar one. The home ended up selling for more than £750,000 within just seven days.

The reason for it flying off the market was down to its huge potential, according to Gareth. Although the buyer will be taking on a full house renovation, they will certainly reap the benefits. This is because detached homes on Oldfield Road, the street it sits on, sold for an average price of £1,300,000 last year, according to Rightmove.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime, well 60 years at least," said Gareth. "This uniquely designed, detached property has been in the same family since the 1960s and the opportunity is only as big as your imagination given the size of plot, location and current property condition.

"You've only got to look locally to gain inspiration from multiple properties that have been completely reconstructed to provide £1,000,000 plus homes; meaning you have the opportunity to completely build your own mansion style home in one of south Manchester's most sought after postcodes without paying a premium for someone else's tastes."

The yellow kitchen

Not only that, but the market town of Altrincham is an extremely sought-after area, having frequently been named in The Sunday Times' 'Best Places to Live' in previous years.

Gareth said: "This home is situated in a real hotspot. Altrincham town centre has undergone masses of change over the years with the high street transforming into a thriving community space with a range of independent and corporate bars, shops and restaurants.

"You are walking distance from Dunham Forest Golf And Country Club and Mere Golf Resort And Spa is a ten minute drive away, if you fancy a stroll rather than a game though you're also close to Denzell Gardens, Dunham Massey and John Leigh Park."

View of the open plan living space

The house sits on an expansive plot of land which is 'larger than expected' with a south-facing wrap-around garden, and the opportunity to extend, develop or completely rebuild the property if desired.

"The plot is hidden away behind high trees to the front but behind it reveals a larger than expected space with the current home built to one side of it leaving potential as huge as the plot," Gareth says.

"You could look at extension work over the garage and porch to provide a fourth bedroom and ensuite while retaining the generous gardens. If you're really not feeling that adventurous a simple refurbishment would suffice. Finally the opportunity of a lifetime comes your way if you can get planning permission to potentially create an annexe on the plot for a relative."

The pink bathroom

Inside the home there is a kitchen, two reception rooms, three double bedrooms and one bathroom, providing ample space for a family. "The property currently comprises a porch to the front that provides access to the internal hallway. Straight off the hallway there is the kitchen diner that has an internal hallway between the integral garage," Gareth explained.

"On the other side of the hallway there are three reception rooms that have been opened into one another provided a great flow. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms as well as an oversized bathroom which could be split up to accommodate an en-suite."

Currently the interior is frozen in time, with a bright yellow kitchen, a pink bathroom and antique wooden furniture. "This really is a blank canvas in order for your to truly create your own space and make it work for you and your family to create the ideal forever home which will hopefully stay in your family for the next 60 years as well," says Gareth.

The house also sits in a sought-after school catchment area. "The big draw of the location is the schooling with a range of desirable schools locally like Loretto Grammar School, Altrincham Grammar School and North Cestrian School all within walking distance," Gareth says.

"Those commuting also benefit from the Metrolink system, bus routes and easy access to the motorway networks both M60 and M56 making hubs such as Media City, the universities and hospitals easily accessible."
