Library program focuses on Victorian Age

An educator from the Frick Pittsburgh Museum and Gardens will discuss the history and etiquette of entertaining guests with tea and parlor games, which became extremely popular during the Victorian Age, at 6 p.m. April 3 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The Victorian Parlor program will give participants the opportunity to spend an hour in the Victorian Age, where they can learn how to speak the intriguing “language of the fan” and have the opportunity to engage in a few parlor games themselves.

The program is free, but registration is requested. Visit norwinpubliclibrary.net or call 724-863-4700, ext. 3.

North Huntingdon OKs pickleball courts contract

Pickleball players may have the opportunity later this spring to be playing their favorite sport at North Huntingdon’s Oak Hollow Park.

The township commissioners on March 20 awarded a $183,434 contract to Keystone Sports Construction of Phoenixville to construct two color-coated playing surfaces for the pickleball courts, a concrete walkway and 15-space parking lot at the park. The courts will be built near the basketball courts at the park. The contractor said the surface has to be cured for at least 30 days before the coating can be applied.

North Huntingdon did receive a $100,000 state grant for the project.

In order to help pay for the project, the township will transfer $77,177 from its recreation fee fund.
