Almost three weeks of works to improve pavements in Princes Avenue are set to begin next week.

Workers will begin resurfacing footpaths between Belvoir Street and Marlborough Avenue from Tuesday (April 2). On-street parking and a bus stop on the western side of the road will be suspended for up to a week from Monday, according to a letter sent to residents.

Hull City Council Transport Portfolio Holder Cllr Mark Ieronimo said the works were essential to stop the further deterioration of the footpaths. They are set to take place in two phases, with the first beginning on Tuesday and lasting until Friday.

It will see the footpath between Belvoir Street and the zebra crossing by Princes Avenue Methodist Church resurfaced. The second phase will move onto the footpath between the zebra crossing and Marlborough Avenue and will last from Monday, April 8 to Friday, April 19.

Footpaths will be closed while the works take place and temporary walkways in the road will be put in place. Workers will be on site from 8am to 5pm and the length of time it takes to finish the refurbishments will depend on the weather.

Access to homes facing onto the road will be maintained but it might be blocked for short periods while pavements are being resurfaced. The council letter stated there may also be some noise disturbances.

Cllr Ieronimo said the council was grateful in advance for affected residents' patience. The portfolio holder said: "These works are essential to repair and maintain the surface of the footpaths, to stop them falling into poor condition. The council is focused on ensuring the city’s footpaths are safe and well-maintained, and we hope residents and businesses within the Princes Avenue area will welcome this investment."
