Yard care services available in Arnold, New Kensington

As part of its workforce development/teen employment program, Sonward Youth Programs in New Kensington is offering basic yard care to residents of Arnold, New Kensington and the surrounding area.

Tasks offered include lawn mowing, weed whacking, light cleanup and trash removal. One-time jobs and contracts are available and the group is insured. Pay what you can or the suggested donation amount.

Boy Scouts to collect food, paper products for local food bank

Boy Scout Troop 854 will host a Scouting For Food collection drive from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Verona Giant Eagle.

Non-perishable food items, laundry and paper products and cash donations will be accepted and donated to the Riverview Community Action Center food bank in Oakmont.

The troop serves boys age 11 to 18 who live in Oakmont and surrounding communities and meets at 7 p.m. Mondays at Oakmont Presbyterian Church. For more information, call Scoutmaster Dave Scatena at 412-708-1569.

Harrison  

Today: Mimi the Pie and Cinnamon Roll Lady will have a sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out in the main lobby at Allegheny Valley Hospital, 1301 Carlisle St. Cash or checks payable to AVH Auxiliary will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Friday: The Adult Day Care Mobile Veterans Program will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. There will be a meet-and-greet, Gerofit exercise, games, Mindful Meditations, lunch and entertainment. Sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, all veterans are welcome.

Saturday: In observation of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, DJ Timmy V will play music from the Vietnam War era from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. Members and three guests welcome.

New Kensington
