Though golf clothing was once reserved for retirees and corporate types, in recent years, it’s shed its rep and has been flung to the forefront of fashion, spearheaded by the likes of J. Lindeberg, Ralph Lauren and Castore.

But when it comes to 18 holes, the dress code has remained very much intact – for men, courses on the stricter side call for collared shirts, golf shoes with spikes and tailored trousers. And it’s this preppy-meets-sporty look that has made its way into the fashionsphere for 2024.

That being said, the clothes you wear to actually play golf need to hit the mark more than just aesthetically. They need to be comfortable, stretchy, breathable, moisture-wicking… The list goes on. The good news? Thanks to its rising popularity, golf-dedicated brands are popping up left, right and centre. From Manors Golf to household names, it’s never been easier to look stylish while making your way around the links.

So, when it comes to golf trousers, what should we be looking for? “I like really smart-looking trousers with enough stretch to allow me to swing freely and get down to read the greens,” says English professional golfer Andy Sullivan. “Lightweight and slim-fitting whilst being really comfortable at the same time.”

He adds: “It’s great to have some water resistance when full waterproofs aren’t needed as well as comfortable back pockets that are big enough to fit a yardage book and scorecard. My current favourites are Castore’s latest SS24 design.”

So, whether you’d rather stick to sportswear experts Adidas and Nike, try luxury with Castore or even go for an à la mode golf-dedicated label like J. Lindeberg, our top pick has you covered.
