The mechanic said he'd be "pulling back the curtain on some of the most common car care myths that have been driving around for years."

One of the misconceptions he debunked involves a popularly used kitchen product drivers use to wash cars but the mechanic said it works best on dishes, not vehicles.

"Ever heard of washing your car with dish soap," the creator asked in the video.

"Well think again."

The auto pro explained that "it's a common belief that dish soap is a cheap and effective way to keep your car sparkling."

But, they informed viewers that the "seemingly harmless household item" does more harm to the exterior of automobiles than good.

"You see, dish soap is formulated to cut through grease and grime which is great for your dirty dishes," the creator stated.

"But not so great for your car's exterior it can strip away the protective wax coating on your car leaving the paintwork exposed to the elements."

This could mean dull paint on your vehicle after a while of regularly washing it with dish soap.

"And even rust," he added.

"And it's not just the paintwork that suffers. The harsh chemicals in dish soap can also damage plastic and rubber parts of your car including seals and trim."

The mechanic explained that those parts "can become brittle and crack over time leading to expensive repairs."

"The best way to wash your car is to use products specifically designed for the job," he stressed.

"Car wash soap is formulated to remove dirt and grime without damaging the protective wax. It's a small investment that can help maintain the value and longevity of your car."

The repairman told drivers they should "consider using a soft microfiber cloth" to gently clean the exterior of a car.

"Avoid using rough sponges or brushes," the creator said.

"Which can scratch the paint remember dish soap belongs in the kitchen not the car wash."
