Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has responded after his former partner on the BBC dance contest, Rose Ayling-Ellis – whom he won the show with in 2021 – revealed that she’d become an auntie. Rose shared the news in a post on Instagram on Monday, April 1.

Sharing a series of photos, the former EastEnders actress referenced things that had happened in her life “lately”. Among the many updates she revealed that she was “officially Auntie Rose” alongside a photo of a picture of a baby’s hands.

Giovanni – who is currently at the centre of a Strictly controversy – commented three heart emojis on the post. Get the best user experience with WalesOnline’s Premium app on Apple or Android.

Others to comment on Rose’s post included the actress’ sister-in-law who wrote: “And little man loves his auntie Rose.” Meanwhile, another person wrote: “Many congratulations on becoming an Auntie. Lots of love and best wishes to your brother and partner”.

Following their Strictly win, Rose and Giovanni have regularly shown their support for each other on social media and remained friends. The same cannot be said for some of Giovanni’s other Strictly partners, who reportedly clashed with the dancer in training.

After his partner last year, Amanda Abbington, quit Strictly, she subsequently revealed that she’d been diagnosed with PTSD. Giovanni’s work in training has been called into question.

The Italian star has been backed by the BBC and he recently said: "I am a perfectionist, 100%, but it comes from a perspective of caring. I think all of the professional dancers are in the same place. In every single part of the world, if you're a professional dancer on one of these shows, you have to get these people looking the best they can on Saturday night.

"And if we have good scores at the end, I do look back and say, 'I've done a great job'. But we all care about our partners and we want that for them every single week to look great on a Saturday. There's no specific way that you are, or have to be with your celebrity. You make the most of their strengths so the only thing that's constant is the fact that you have to do a show on Saturday night."
