LNER is launching hundreds of thousands of cheap train tickets in time for the summer, in a bid to help customers plan and book their getaways in advance for the best value. Tickets for weekday and weekend services up to and including September 6, 2024 will launch tomorrow (April 4).

Data from the firm shows that more than six million journeys were made between June and August 2023, an increase of nine per cent on the same timeframe from the year prior.

Stretching almost 1,000 miles from the Scottish Highlands, through the North East, Yorkshire, East Midlands and into London King's Cross - LNER offers an array of destinations for people to explore.

Among the top summer journeys in 2023 were:

  • Edinburgh to London King’s Cross
  • Leeds to London King’s Cross
  • York to London King’s Cross
  • Newcastle upon Tyne to London King’s Cross
  • Peterborough to London King’s Cross
  • Stevenage to London King’s Cross
  • Grantham to London King’s Cross

LNER encourage people to book in advance directly for the upcoming summer. LNER Family Tickets provide travel for up to two adults and four children for a fixed price - while booking direct means that there's no additional booking fee and customers are kept up to date with the latest live journey alerts.

Customers are also signed up for LNER's loyalty scheme, which allows them to earn credit on future journeys. David Flesher, Commercial Director at LNER, said: "At LNER, we are continuing to attract more people to rail than ever before, and we are looking forward to the summer season.

"Rail, of course, is one of the most sustainable forms of public transport and we are proud to connect dozens of towns and cities across our route. We know it’s more important than ever for our customers to get the best value, and with tickets going on sale now, it means people can plan ahead and look forward to that special summer trip, memory-making days out or catching up with family and friends."

Once onboard, customers can enjoy a delicious range of locally sourced food and drink with complimentary at-seat service in First Class. Customers in Standard also have a wide range of refreshments delivered directly to their seat using LNER’s Let’s Eat At Your Seat service.
