Hollyoaks actor Charlie Clapham promised there was more drama ahead following his character Freddie Roscoe's big return to the Channel 4 soap.

Freddie fled the village back in 2017 after assaulting a man named Nick Savage, with Freddie facing years behind bars. It was recently confirmed in a major twist that the character would be back on the show this year.

But an even bigger twist was revealed when the show's spring trailer teased he had teamed up with fellow returning show legend Grace Black. The fact the pair, who have a huge history, are working together to take down Warren Fox has left viewers thrilled.

Asides the secret plan with Grace though, actor Charlie has teased there's much more to come and more to find out about Freddie. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Charlie spilled on his big comeback after seven years away and as he teased what was ahead, he hinted at more twists and turns.

Charlie revealed when asked if more secrets will unravel: "Absolutely, there is always something more even when you think that's the full picture, there is like another gallery around the corner. He's awful and brilliant, and I love him."

He also spilled on the big scenes with Freddie and Grace, as actress Tamara Wall makes her big return to the show. He shared: "It's almost like it's carried on, the unfinished business, and it's been such a pleasure to work with Tam again.

"I think it's great when you have two characters with so much history, the scripts could have done anything with that in-between period of time. How have these two kept in touch? How do they know each other in this version or era of Hollyoaks? It's been electric."

Charlie also told us about his comeback centring around Freddie's bond with Mercedes McQueen, and him protecting her. He said: "I think what's nice about Freddie is he does have a massive heart, and so even if other people don't care about certain characters, if Freddie cares about someone, he really cares.

"He has the strangest reasons for being loyal to people and I definitely think Mercedes is a character who pulls on his heart strings, because of that history there. There's a lot with Joe, she looked after Lexi, there was a romance for a while, then they tried to kill each other, there's so much history there.

"It's always fun working with Jennifer Metcalfe, and those two characters just work so well together it almost writes itself." On whether Freddie has changed, he went on: "It's hard to tell sometimes, some people take 10 steps forward and 20 steps back. I think you can never really know if Freddie is making progress or if it's gonna go back round in a circle."
