In a society where multitasking several duties and responsibilities has become prevalent, parenting can frequently feel like a juggling act. Serena Williams is all too familiar with the concept and recently provided insightful revelations amid these expectations in an interview on the TODAY show. Williams, a mother of two daughters, shared how she handles the balancing act of giving attention to her daughters.

Serena shared personal insights from her experience as a mother and admitted that it can be difficult to divide attention among siblings. She did, however, stress the long-term advantages of spending quality time with the oldest child. But why so? Let’s find out her explanation for the advice.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are the happy parents of two girls. In September 2017, the couple welcomed Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., also known as Olympia, their first child. Williams gave birth to their younger daughter, Adira River Ohanian, in August 2023, five years after Olympia was born. She has always been vocal about her struggles with motherhood. On the TODAY show, she said, “Someone gave me the best advice. Spend more time with the oldest because they will remember.”. 

Hoda and Jenna, the hosts, asked Williams how she handles having two kids at home. In response to that, Serena Williams shared her advice that has helped in her journey to motherhood. She further explained how she spends her time with Olympia whenever she is not at school.

“But I do cause the little one won’t remember. So whenever Olympia’s home, I am with her,” Williams said, emphasizing her previous statement. Remember when Olympia was born and Serena Williams was not ready to stay apart from her at all? Let’s recall those moments once again!

Williams’ daughter does not like “tennis”

Serena Williams’ admiration for her older daughter has grown stronger over the years. Following the birth of Olympia, Williams talked candidly about juggling parenthood and her job back in 2018. “I want to put her above everything else I’m doing. Since she was born, I haven’t been apart from her for more than a day,” said the 23-year-old grand slam champion in an interview.

Williams disclosed that Olympia has been playing tennis since she was a toddler, following in her mother’s footsteps. But she admitted that her daughter “doesn’t actually like to play tennis too much.” However, Serena Williams has previously stated what she wants her daughters to learn from her career.
