'He's wanted by franchises because...' - Sunil Gavaskar puts Rashid Khan on same pedestal as Ben Stokes

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar lauded Gujarat Titans spinner Rashid Khan for his heroics in the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said that the leg-spinner is a wanted player by the franchises in the world as he gives his everything for the team.

Rashid Khan played a magnificent role for his team in the game against Rajasthan Royals. The Afghanistan spinner was at his all-round best in the game and helped his team win the game from the jaws of defeat at the fortress of Royals in Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Rashid Khan first stepped up with the ball for his team as he removed dangerous Jos Buttler. While every other Gujarat Titans bowler went with an economy of over 9, the leg-spinner conceded just 18 runs in his four overs and helped his team restrict the opposition to a total of under 200.

If this was not enough, Rashid Khan then played a magnificent innings down the order for his team. When it seemed that the Gujarat Titans were down and dusted in the game, the all-rounder produced a magnificent effort with the bat and took his team home from the jaws of defeat.

Rashid Khan played a magnificent innings of unbeaten 24 runs and made sure that he took his team home. The all-rounder along with Rahul Tewatia (22) produced a stellar effort and snatched victory for their team from the jaws of defeat to win their third game of the season.

Sunil Gavaskar was in awe of Rashid Khan for his performance in the game against Rajasthan Royals. He pointed out how bowlers hesitate to give effort in the field because of injuries but it isn't the case with Rashid. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

"Yeah he didn't hit the wickets like he usually does, but when he was needed with the bat he came and delivered. This is the reason he's such a wanted player by franchises all around the world. They want him because they can see his commitment, to batting, bowling and fielding.

"Look at the way he gives everything while he's fielding. Bowlers sometimes can be a little concerned about diving on their bowling shoulder, because if they dislocate their shoulder careers are in threat."

Sunil Gavaskar further correlated Rashid Khan with Ben Stokes and highlighted how the two greats of cricket give their everything on the field. Talking about the same, he elaborated:"Not with Rashid Khan, he just wants to give 100%. There's another cricketer who is not playing in this IPL but who's again similar is Ben Stokes. Anytime you see Ben Stokes batting, bowling or fielding he's 100%, he gives it everything.

"And those are the cricketers that coaches and captains want, they might not always deliver but you know the percentage is not going to be anything less than 100%," he concluded.
