During the gender reveal party of the second daughter of the household, Adira River, Ohanian and Williams welcomed many friends into their house. However, Markle was notably missing from those at the party. This kicked up several rumors that Williams and Markle were not friends with each other anymore. Every tennis fan spoke about it, and many news outlets covered the absence.

The two recently met and seemed amicable with each other, putting a rest to the many months of speculation. Williams was also seen hugging Prince Harry as the three hung out after many months, further rubbishing claims of a tiff.

They are prominent public figures and have jam-packed schedules all around the year. The likely reason they did not meet each other is simply because they were busy dealing with personal and professional commitments. The tennis player and the Duchess of Sussex first met during the Super Bowl in 2010. When they crossed paths again in 2014, they hit it off quickly and have remained close ever since. Williams and Markle first met in Super Bowl XLIV when the New Orleans Saints faced the Indianapolis Colts in 2010. They would not meet again until the 2014 Super Bowl when Williams went up to talk to Williams. The duchess recounted their conversation on the first edition of her podcast Archetypes, which included an interview with Williams. “I show up and I see you walking toward someone,”

Markle recalled. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, who is Serena Williams going to talk to?’ I looked behind me and when I turned around, you were there right in front of me… We became such fast friends.” Talking to her blog about how they became such good friends, Markle wrote, “We are both the same age, have a penchant for hot sauces and adore fashion, but what connects us more than those things is perhaps our belief in exceeding expectations – our endless ambition.”
