Holger Rune has hammered the ATP Tour on social media as he accused them of leaving him no recovery time, among other criticism, at the Monte Carlo Masters.

The world's top players have headed to Monaco with Yannik Sinner and Rune among the favourites. The Australian Open champion, who is currently the World No 2, ran out victorious against Rune, who was the seventh seed. He won their last-eight clash in three sets.

Rune though was clearly frustrated by the demands placed on him during the tournaments as he played twice in quick succession - leaving him with little time to prepare for Sinner. The young Dane also let frustration boil over as he was hit with a code violation by the umpire and booed by the crowd.

The ATP Tour's official twitter account posted a video of Jannick Sinner hitting an impressive forehand winner to make it 0-30 on Rune's serve at 5-5 in the second set. They included the caption: "May the force be with you" - which didn't sit well with Rune.

He responded: "Meaning what @atptour…..? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late , leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be with you. Jesus Christ."

Rune found himself on the wrong side of the crowd as he offered up a sarcastic reaction of his own when he was given a time violation. He made a gesture, suggesting the crowd were talking nonsense, which then got him in trouble with the umpire.

The Dane was unhappy with the code violation, which he felt wasn't warranted. He then insisted on speaking to the supervisor about the decision as he lamented the umpire's decision.

"I didn’t say the bad words," he complained. "It’s like to say be quiet so if I said to you be quiet, it’s a warning?" Last year's finalist wasn't happy with the official's response, asking to see the supervisor for some clarification. He added: "Call the supervisor. I want to ask him the question of how could you give me a warning. Come now.”

Sinner is facing Stefanos Tsitsipas in his semi-final before Novak Djokovic takes on Casper Ruud. Tsitsipas is a two-time winner of the tournament in Monaco whilst Djokovic has also won the title on two occasions.

Sinner though has been in sensational form since his first Grand Slam success and is tipped to follow up his recent success at the Miami Open.
