Travis Head joins a new team with Steve Smith in between IPL 2024

Australian cricket star Travis Head is poised to make his debut in the American T20 competition, Major League Cricket (MLC). Travis Head has been signed by the Washington Freedom franchise for the upcoming edition of Major League Cricket, scheduled after the T20 World Cup 2024.

Travis Head is currently playing in the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The left-handed batter has been impressive with the bat in the IPL 2024. He has scored 133 runs in four innings at an average of 33.25 and an impressive strike rate of 172.73.

The opener is likely to partner with David Warner at the upcoming World Cup. He has delivered an impressive start to the IPL under the leadership of Pat Cummins for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The southpaw has showcased his ability to dominate the new ball with scores of 62, 19, 31, and 21.

Travis Head To Join Washington Freedom For MLC 2024

Washington Freedom announced Travis Head's signing via their social media channels on Sunday, amidst his ongoing Indian Premier League campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In the inaugural season of the six-team tournament last year, Washington secured third place under the leadership of Moises Henriques. The team faced a 16-run defeat against MI New York in the Eliminator despite registering three victories and two losses in the group stage.

The 30-year-old batter has decided to continue his cricket career by signing with Freedom shortly after Steve Smith's addition to the franchise. Following the T20 World Cup 2024, Australia has no international commitments until a white-ball tour of England in September.

Head and Smith will play for the Washington Freedom under the new coach, Ricky Ponting. Additionally, Freedom confirmed the acquisition of New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra while retaining Marco Jansen and Akeal Hosein as overseas players from the 2023 season.

Head, Steve Smith, Adam Zampa (Los Angeles Knight Riders), Spencer Johnson (Knight Riders), and Tim David (MI New York) are the confirmed Australian signings for the second season of Major League Cricket, with expectations for additional players to join for the tournament.

Steve Smith expressed his excitement about playing alongside his new teammates and performing in front of enthusiastic American crowds. Smith also highlighted his eagerness to collaborate once again with Ponting and his exceptional staff.

I'm also really looking forward to working with Ricky Ponting again, and his amazing staff," Smith said in a video posted on the Freedom's social media channels.
