A nine-month-old baby died after being placed in a sleeping position that was an “obvious recipe for disaster” and then subsequently ignored by a deputy nursery manager, a court was told.

Kate Roughley, 37, is accused of causing the death of Genevieve Meehan, who was found “unresponsive and blue” at Tiny Toes nursery in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, Greater Manchester, in May 2022.

The experienced nursery worker allegedly ignored the cries of Genevieve, known as Gigi by her relatives, after leaving her tightly swaddled and strapped face-down on a bean bag for over 90 minutes.
