Judo not jabbing helps Queensberry, 94, fight off mugger

His great-grandfather codified the rules for boxing but it was judo that saved David Douglas, 12th Marquess of Queensberry, when he came under attack near his home in west London.

David Queensberry, as he styles himself, appeared to be an easy target for a mugger. The retired ceramics professor, who is 94 and about 5ft 4in, said his attacker was over 6ft in height and far younger.

What his assailant did not know is that Queensberry served in the Royal Horse Guards and is a trained practitioner of judo.
