A man has been charged with possession of a knife and a drugs offence after a vehicle was stopped in the Black Country. It was spotted in Ablewell Street in Walsall, close to the town centre, shortly after midnight on Wednesday, April 17.

A knife was recovered from the footwell in the passenger side of the vehicle. Kevin Griffiths, 53, of Ladypool Close in Rushall, was charged with possessing a blade and failing to attend a mandatory drug test.

He was bailed to first appear at Dudley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 16. West Midlands Police said: “We have arrested and charged a man with possession of a knife after officers stopped a vehicle in Walsall.

“Kevin Griffiths, 53, of Ladypool Close, Walsall, has also been charged with failing to attend a mandatory drug test. Griffiths has been given bail and will appear at Dudley Magistrates' Court on May 16 for a first hearing.

“Officers stopped a vehicle on Ablewell Street shortly after midnight this morning and recovered a knife from the passenger footwell. Our commitment to tackling knife crime across Walsall is always continuing by our officers and partners.”
