Coronation Street character Alya Nazir is part of a big storyline - as she seemingly plans to exit the Cobbles.

She has been a popular face on the Cobbles for years now, but it looks like she might be departing her role soon as she goes on maternity leave. Actress Sair Khan is expecting her first child and will be taking a break from the soap when she welcomes her little one. Tonight, as she decides to go ahead and take the new job at Fabian's, Yasmeen assures her that he's very proud of her.

Khalid 'Kal' Nazir, portrayed by Jimi Mistry, made his debut in Weatherfield back in 2012 as an old friend of Gary Windass (played by Mikey North). He was introduced as a widowed father and ex-soldier turned personal trainer, whose wife tragically passed away that same year - a huge factor behind the family's move to the infamous street.

His character arrived along with his two kids, Alya and Zeedan. While on the Cobbles, Khalid had an affair with Leanne Tilsley (played by Jane Danson) and saw his bond with Gary crumble when he found out his daughter Alya was dating the builder.

Unfortunately, Khalid's stint on the ITV drama ended abruptly in 2015 after he proposed to Leanne. He died heroically in the Victoria Court fire trying to save Amy Barlow (played by Elle Mulvaney) from a blazing flat.

Reflecting on his exit, he said at the time: "It was a great end to the character but also it would give so much future to the family as well. There will be a lot of drama because of this. I've always done a lot of things in my career, as you know, I was going to keep moving on. So, to be honest, I've had a fantastic time and to be a part of something like this, I wanted to do it."

Since his stint on Coronation Street, Jimi Mistry and his wife - former Strictly Come Dancing pro Flavia Cacae - have put all their focus into their holiday cottages in South Devon and their Our Life At The Barn Instagram account has over 78k followers.
