Emmerdale's Amy and Matty will finally wed tonight - leading to a brand new link between Matty and Kyle.

Matty and Amy have decided to tie the knot, with Kyle acting as the best man. Tonight, as he made his speech, fans were shocked to learn of Kyle's connection to the family - after he made a joke about the newlyweds.

In the speeches at the wedding, Kyle says to Matty that he is the best - and hopefully only - step dad and step brother he’s ever had. This is because Kyle is the daughter of Amy, who she has with Cain Dingle. Cain is, of course, married to Moira Dingle, who is the mother of Matty, making him and Kyle related through both Amy and Matty.

Ash Palmisciano previously opened up about how grateful he is for the storyline, describing it as "everything he set out to do".

Speaking about the storyline, he explained: "I am so grateful for the storyline. To be that person that shows this beautiful love story where one of the characters happens to be trans. It’s just it’s everything I set out to do in this role.

"I can look back on this job and go, 'I'm so proud of that.' A lot of trans people grow up thinking no one is going to love them. We all have insecurities as a teenager, but if you’re trans, these are huge."

He added: "There was that fear that, 'is anyone going to get me, is anyone going to understand me?' When you’re a younger trans person, you think, 'I’ll never find anyone.' I understand what Matty's been through. I’ve lived it. I’ve felt it."

Ash also opened up about the recent storyline, which saw Claudette's prejudice about trans people.

Speaking about the greater impact of the storyline, he explained: "What an amazing thing that this story has been highlighted in soap. I was really pleased to do it because it's real, it happens. Unfortunately there is a lot of judgement and opinion out there and I think sometimes we have this great bubble in Emmerdale where everyone is accepting of Matty and who he is, and in real life that's not always the case so to play that was really great and felt really authentic."
