This week we spotlight Member Michael L. Nguyen.
Tell us a little about yourself:
Michael Nguyen was born in Illinois and raised in San Francisco and has a deep connection to this city and its people. As a member of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, he is committed to serving and protecting the community he calls home. Michael brings a diverse perspective to the Sheriff's Department Oversight Board. With a background in Public Safety, he is dedicated to ensuring accountability and fairness within our justice system. He is passionate about Law Enforcement, Economy, and Foreign Cultures.
Why did you want to become a commissioner/board member?
I joined the oversight board because I believe in the importance of community involvement in shaping policies that impact us all. I am committed to advocating for transparency, equity, and justice for both law enforcement and the community.
What do you want to accomplish as a commissioner/board member?
As a member of the oversight board, I aim to build stronger Public Perceptions of Law Enforcement and Trust of the Sheriff’s Office, advocate for Mental Health and Wellness for deputies, and seek to obtain better Technologies so deputies can effectively serve and protect our community. I am dedicated to fostering trust between law enforcement and the communities I serve, and I am eager to work towards positive change.
And finally, since this is social media, a fun fact question: you have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick?
My go-to karaoke song is “When I dream about you” by Stevie B. It’s a fun way to unwind after a long day at work.
