Professor T star Ben Miller has given an update on the future of the ITV drama.

The latest - and third - series of the ITV drama saw Professor T locked up and charged with murder, but he was later cleared after someone else confessed. This means the criminologist can now return to work with police team, solving all the biggest cases.

During an interview earlier this week, Ben had some news for fans regarding another series of the hit ITV drama after revealing that one of the show's biggest mysteries would be solved in the upcoming episodes.

Since the very start of the show, fans have been wondering what happened to the Professor's father and whether Ben's character killed his dad or if he was somehow involved in the death of his father.

Speaking on The One Show this week, he explained: "The fascinating thing about the show is that the character of the professor himself… There are two mysteries in Professor T. There is a mystery every week, the whodunnit, every week.

"The bigger mystery is this sort of trauma that happened in his past. He has these really strange visions of being a child and holding a shotgun to his father’s chest. And there is some question – did he kill his own father? Was he somehow involved in his father’s mysterious death? In this season, season three, we get the answers finally to those questions."

He added: "They have been sort of teased all the way through. All through the previous two seasons they have been teasing... What was it? How did his father die? And we finally get the solution to that."

However, fans will be pleased to know that Professor T will be back for a fourth series. Speaking on The One Show on Monday, Ben confirmed he’d be heading to Antwerp on Tuesday to film the fourth series of the ITV show.

Ben also opened up about his own experience with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He said: "I myself have OCD. I think one of the things… My OCD is not like his, it doesn’t show in the same way I suppose.

"But what I did feel would be really the most authentic way to do it was to sort of play the same feeling that I have when I am doing OCD behaviours, what’s going through my mind and have that kind of process. I have seen OCD done with other characters before, but it always seems to me to be from the outside in, rather than it being, you know, for the person who has OCD, the reason that we do the behaviours is that they provide some comfort in the moment."
