Real Madrid has crushed Manchester City's hopes of winning a second consecutive treble after winning the quarterfinal round via penalties (4-4 aggregate, 4-3 PK) on Wednesday.

Antonio Rüdiger's penalty kick clinched the win for Real Madrid, who exacted revenge on Manchester City after losing 4-0 to them in the second leg of last year's Champions League semifinals.

Real Madrid and Manchester City posted a 3-3 draw in the first leg.

Man City dominated the second leg, but they somehow didn't have a victory to show for it.

Rüdiger's goal later sealed the upset, and now the team is going back to the UCL semifinals for the fourth straight time (and 12th time in 14 years).

Real Madrid fans were clearly elated, and analysts were impressed as well. Meanwhile, others reveled in Manchester City's loss.

Colin Millar @Millar_Colin

Real Madrid have all-season been without Courtois, Alaba, Eder Militao with ACL injuries, midfielder Tchouaméni has often had to play there, he was suspended tonight too. Just 20 league goals conceded, 8 points clear at the top and into UCL semi-finals. Some achievement.

Brendan Boyle @BrendyBoyle

Don't think Real Madrid and Ancelotti (and Zidane in the past) get the credit they deserve for being so mentally tough in these type of games, being able to get world class players to put in an absolutely massive shift for the team.

Xav Salazar @XavsFutbol

The absolute biggest appreciation for Antonio Rudiger. He saw all his fellow defensive partners fall to injuries, and he rose to the occasion to consistently hold the line when it matters most. An absolute monster of a CB. So incredibly grateful he plays for Real Madrid. pic.twitter.com/TeCs3ShlLH

Nah but can we talk about how Barca and Atletico fans tuned in to hate-watch us today and they suffered like us for 120 mins just to see Real Madrid win the most Real Madrid fashion in the end lmaoooo

Manchester City now turns its attention toward winning the Premier League. With six matches remaining, the Citizens have 76 points, just one ahead of second-place Arsenal.

As for Real Madrid, they'll now face Bayern in the semifinals. Dortmund will take on PSG in the other semi.
