‘Greedy’ Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop wants maximum points from the Airdrie side’s last five games, but refuses to set a target for their West of Scotland Premier League finish.

As things stand in the table, 15 points would take Gartcairn up to third, which would be a good return from their first Premier League season.

While Dunlop will take it game by game, he also wants full points.

He said: “We’re taking it one game at a time but we want to try and win every one of them.

“This is the club’s first season in this league, so the first goal was ultimately consolidation and to go and build on that.

“I’m obviously greedy, as most managers are. I’m not content with that, I want us to finish as high as we possibly can.

“We have 15 points to play for and every single game is hard, you need to be right at it, but I hope by next week we’ll have a few guys back from injury and that will help us.

“We have a squad of 19 and in the last month or so we’ve had four or five guys out injured, and that hasn’t helped us.

“Let’s win as many as we can and see where it takes us, because that gives us confidence and momentum, going into next season.”

Gartcairn start that sequence at home to fifth-placed Pollok, who beat them 3-2 at Newlandsfield on Saturday, and Dunlop hopes for better fortunes.

“Ultimately it’s a great chance to try and get three points, especially when it’s a team you’ve just played the week before,” he said.

“I couldn’t really ask much more from the boys, they worked really hard.

“In the first half we were probably the better side, played some good stuff and had some really good chances early on, but didn’t take them.

“We lost the ball in our own half, gave it away cheaply under no pressure, they scored, 1-0 down, and they’re going well just now, so it gave them a lift.

“The heads didn’t go down, we kept playing and deservedly got the equaliser and I hoped we would then kick on.

“I think if we had got the next goal it would have been different, but we gave away a goal from a shot from distance that we should be dealing with and that was another hammer blow.

“The guys gave it everything, got back in, scored a really good goal, and it was a lot more even, but ultimately they scored with 15 or 20 minutes to go.

“I thought we deserved a point, but if you go into games like that and make mistakes you get punished for it.”
