Resuming his duties following news of Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis, Prince William made a heartfelt show of public service today. He visited Sunbury Cricket Club in Surrey, the home of surplus food distribution charity, Surplus to Supper.

The future king rolled up his sleeves and volunteered in the kitchens of the charity, also lending a hand in packing meals into delivery vans destined for various locations. His itinerary set him on a course to West London later on, with a youth centre that greatly benefits from deliveries via the organisation among his stops.

Founded in 2017, Surplus to Supper has done tremendous work, hauling an average of 10 tons of food per week to places like food banks, schools, care homes, religious organisations and youth centres.

A previous statement from Kensington Palace highlighted the environmental angle: "Reducing food waste has a considerable number of environmental benefits, including reducing emissions from landfill that contribute to climate change. Protecting the environment for future generations is one of the Prince of Wales's key priorities."

Prince William, 41, has been extremely supportive, spending the past three-and-a-half weeks with his wife and children over the Easter holiday as they process this distressing health news. The Duchess of Cambridge had previously asked for understanding from the nation amidst her chemotherapy treatments, requesting time, space, and privacy for herself and her family in a video message released on March 22, reports the Mirror.

She remarked: "I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay."

Upon disclosing the diagnosis, it's reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales were "enormously touched" and "extremely moved" by the compassion and backing of the public. Following the reveal, the entire family was absent from the Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, unlike last year when they were present.

The Duke of Cambridges most recent official duty was back on March 19th, where he travelled to Sheffield to champion his Homewards homelessness campaign. Kensington Palace previously confirmed that William would recommence his public roles following the school holidays, though on a revised schedule as he continues to support Kate during her treatment.

Onlookers spotted William taking his eldest lad, Prince George, to an Aston Villa game last week. This marked his first public appearance since sharing the news about Kate's condition.

They watched his beloved childhood club defeat Lille in the Europa Conference League match held at Villa Park. Post-operative tests that followed her abdominal operation in January revealed her cancer.

Yesterday, Prince William extended his heartfelt support to families who have lost loved ones to suicide within the armed forces community, assuring them: "Please know that you are not alone". He had previously penned a foreword for a collection of guides aimed at military veterans and their families, which were released by Suicide Bereavement UK on Wednesday.

The Duke of Cambridge reflected on his encounters with many bereaved families alongside Kate, acknowledging the "power that comes from sharing experiences". He emphasised the importance of listening to those who have lost someone to suicide, stating: "There is no time limit to processing grief, but Catherine and I have met many bereaved families over the years and know the power that comes from sharing experiences, even in the most tragic of circumstances."
