If you're wondering exactly who is Lucy on Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department song, we get it, because we were too until we did some digging. In the title track, Swift sings:

"Sometimes I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me
But you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave
And I had said that to Jack about you so I felt seen"

The Jack referenced is Jack Antonoff, Swift’s decade long collaborator, and it didn't take fans long to piece together who Lucy is on The Tortured Poets Department either.

Who is Lucy on Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department song?

Lucy seems to be a reference to Lucy Dacus from the band Boygenius, with the musician having apparently had a certain level of involvement in Swift's relationship with Matty Healy, as well as clearly being friendly with Taylor as proven by their cute interactions at the Grammys.

Healy was once on good terms with Dacus too, with the 1975 frontman sharing a friendship with her fellow Boygenius bandmate Phoebe Bridgers.

However, in 2023 he tweeted "I told Lucy Dacus that Boygenius had inspired me and George to start a new band called ‘Girlretard'. I don’t hear from her that often.”

Dacus hit back at the 1975 frontman's ableist slur with “You don’t hear from me at all."

Yes, Lucy! Healy then went on to deactivate his account on X (formerly Twitter).

Who is Lucy Dacus?

Lucy Dacus is a singer-songwriter and mutual friend of Swift and Healy. She released her debut album No Burden in 2016 before going on to release two further albums.

However, many know her as a member of the indie supergroup Boygenius alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker.

Needless to say, Swifties had some thoughts when the song dropped:
