A bomb squad has been called to Dingle after a "substance" was found in a flat.

Emergency services are currently at a flat in Ellis Place in Dingle after a warrant was carried out by Merseyside Police.

Police searched the flat and found a substance that "requires further examination." The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been called to assist with its safe disposal.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "A cordon has been put in place and a number of businesses and residences have been evacuated while emergency services deal with the incident.

"Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area while the incident is ongoing."

A series of roads are closed in Dingle and bus diversions have been put in place. Arriva said: "Due to police incident at Tesco on Park Road. Services 82 and 82A will temporarily divert via Ullet Rd, Devonshire Rd, Princes Ave and Parliament St in both directions until cleared."
