John Mullane: I watched them in the league and it was poison for the eyes at times. Davy’s Déise must cut loose now

Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald

John Mullane

Davy Fitzgerald threw all of his eggs into the one basket when saying ‘judge us on the championship’ after a dismal league campaign that saw them relegated. D-Day is nearly here for him and his Waterford squad.

Tomorrow’s Munster opener against Cork will go an awful long way to deciding if this is Davy’s last dance with the Déise. If they lose, they are on the back foot . . . but a victory would open up the distinct possibility of qualification.
