A suspect has appeared in court charged with the murder of a young man in south London.

Rijkaard Siafa, 22, was fatally stabbed in Fellmongers Yard, Croydon.

Passers-by gave him first aid before paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance arrived, but Mr Siafa died at the scene just after 6pm on April 12.

David Walcott, 34, of Turle Road, Norbury is accused of killing him.

Walcott was arrested in the early hours of Friday by Metropolitan Police officers investigating the murder.

He appeared before Bromley Magistrates’ Court later on Saturday.

Mr Siafa’s family have been updated with this development and continue to be supported by specially trained officers, a police spokesman said.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, from the Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Rijkaard’s family and friends who are coming to terms with his death following this shocking incident.

“This loss has ripped an irreparable hole in their family and I would ask their privacy is respected at this difficult time.

“I would also like to thank those members of the public who rushed help Rijkaard in the immediate aftermath.

“I would urge anyone who saw events unfold and has yet to contact police to do immediately.

“Local residents will continue to see an increased police presence around the area of Fellmongers Yard – if you have any concerns, please speak to one of them.”
