Carlos Corberán's assessment of narrow Leicester City defeat

Carlos Corberán is interviewed after Albion's defeat at Leicester

Carlos Corberán says he was impressed by his team’s performance against Leicester City, but was left frustrated after falling to a narrow defeat on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies were edged out in the early kick-off at King Power Stadium despite creating a plethora of chances during the encounter.

And while the Albion boss accepts it wasn’t enough to achieve something positive in the East Midlands, Corberán believes the high level of display shown is one his players must continue to replicate in their two remaining Sky Bet Championship matches.

He said: “All of our fans are going to feel the same way we are feeling.

“We didn’t lose any of the previous seven or eight games we’d played away before this, and today we lost a game where we probably deserved to win the most.

“When you don’t find the result, it’s important to find a way to achieve the result and without any type of doubt, Leicester City found a way to achieve a positive result.

“We were able to break the press against one team whose strength is in the high press, we were good in the attacking half, creating opportunities. So we did something which is very complicated in football and that is creating clear chances.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t finish the chances to the level that you need to finish and achieve something else.

“We are probably one of the only teams who have achieved a higher expected goals than Leicester in the last games, in attack we’ve had the ball more than them but unfortunately, it hasn’t been enough to achieve something positive.

“From the last two weeks, I’ve been focused to perform in the level that we have to perform at, and still we have two games left.

“We need to give our best and at the end of week 46, we will see the table to see what we achieved.

“But if we achieve something, I want it to be because we’ve deserved what we’ve achieved.”
