This Town, Peaky Blinders, Citizen Khan - the real filming locations that feature Brum on TV

The latest Steven Knight prime-time drama has put Birmingham at the heart of the TV schedules and a host of spots have featured on the small screen over the years

It's the Sunday night drama that has put Birmingham back at the heart of the prime time TV schedules. But This Town - from the same team that created smash-hit Peaky Blinders - is far from the first production to use Brum and the wider West Midlands as a backdrop.

We told how visitors could stand on Dante's Bridge and recreate scenes from the BBC1 show, set in the early 1980s. Other spots are easy to find like the tower blocks at Druids Heath and the A47 Nechells Heartlands Parkway at Bromford.

In the case of Peaky Blinders, much of the filming took place elsewhere but some scenes were filmed at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley. Another obvious one was Crossroads.

The opening scenes would see a car whizz along the M6 and head down a country lane to Tanworth-in-Arden and eventually end up at Danzey Green which then turned into Penns Hall Hotel in Walmley.

The cast of Doctors would be a regular sight on the streets around Selly Oak with mock accidents and ambulances in tow as they were based at the nearby BBC studios. The magic of telly is fantastic as our average streets turn into fantastic wonderland locations as we sit back and enjoy our favourite shows.
