Firefighters found two people inside the destroyed end-of-terrace house after nine people made the urgent call to 999.

Sadly, both people inside the property were confirmed dead at the scene.

Neither of the deceased have been identified yet.

Cops and fire forensics teams are now probing the blaze which was eventually brought under control around 12.22am on Monday.

A neighbour told The Sun how his home was close to going up in flames too as he feared for his safety.

He said: "When I looked out the window and saw the fire brigade - that's when I knew something was wrong.

"I could've been burned in my bed and I wouldn't have known. I came out when the smell started getting stronger and the noise was getting louder.

"I looked outside the window and saw smoke coming out of the house.

"I wish I knew what was going on - I could've called the fire brigade beforehand. My house nearly went up as well."

Another local said he rushed out of his home when he heard screams from locals.

Bob, 25, said: "I came out of my house because I heard a lot of screaming from my neighbours.

"The whole back of it was on fire."

Around 40 firefighters from The London Fire Brigade responded to calls.

A spokesperson said: "Two people have sadly died following a house fire on Forest Road in Walthamstow.

"A two-storey end-of-terraced house was destroyed by fire. Half of the roof was also damaged by fire.

"Two people were discovered inside the property by firefighters.

"They were sadly pronounced dead at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

"The Brigade's 999 Control Officers received nine calls about the fire.

"The Brigade was called at 10.25pm and the fire was brought under control by 12.22am.
