Welsh superstar Catherine Zeta-Jones’ lookalike daughter has celebrated her 21st birthday by wearing a dress worn by her mother 25 years ago. Carys Zeta Douglas, the daughter of Zeta-Jones, 54, and her husband Michael Douglas, 79, marked the milestone over the weekend and posted a number of pictures on Instagram.

One shows her blowing the candles out on her cake, another shows her being lofted into the air on a chair by friends, and one clearly shows her wearing a strappy pale pink silk dress with a delicate floral pattern on the front.

Eager-eyed followers of Carys quickly pointed out that they recognised the dress from somewhere. It turns out that her mother Catherine wore the very same dress to the MTV Movie Awards in California in 1999. To get the latest What's On newsletters from WalesOnline, click here.

People were quick to ask her if indeed it was the very same dress, and Carys confirmed that it was. She said her dinner celebrations made it “the most perfect 21st I could ask for!” - to which her mother replied on Instagram: “You deserve it sweetheart.”

Carys, who was born in New Jersey, is an actress and an assistant director. She has a brother named Dylan, 23, who is also in the film and TV industry. Their mother Catherine was born in Swansea in 1969 and starred in ITV’s Darling Buds of May in the early ‘90s.

She soon attracted Hollywood’s attention and has appeared in many big-budget films including The Mask of Zorro, Traffic, Chicago, Ocean’s Twelve and The Terminal. She met movie legend Michael Douglas in 1998 and the pair got married at the Plaza Hotel in New York in 2000.
