2024 Western Pennsylvania election results roundup: Summer Lee wins; Casey, McCormick to face off
Primary Day in Pennsylvania has wrapped up.
Among voters’ options on this year’s ballot were candidates for president, the U.S. Senate, and the state’s attorney general. Despite it being a presidential election year, reports said voter turnout was low.

U.S. House
12th Congressional District
Summer Lee beats Bhavini Patel in Democratic primary
U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, D-Swissvale, cruised to a primary victory Tuesday night, vanquishing her Democratic challenger Bhavini Patel.
14th Congressional District
Dziados leads in Democratic primary for chance to unseat Reschenthaler in Congress
Retired U.S. Army veteran Chris Dziados, with overwhelming support from his home county, appeared ahead in the race to secure the Democratic nomination in the 14th Congressional District.
U.S. Senate
Casey, McCormick to face each other as nominees in Pennsylvania’s high-stakes U.S. Senate contest
Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican challenger David McCormick will face each other in Pennsylvania’s high-stakes U.S. Senate contest this fall, as Tuesday’s primary election put the men on track for a race that is expected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars and help decide control of the Senate next year.

32nd State House District
McAndrew secures Democratic nomination for 32nd District state House seat
State Rep. Joe McAndrew, who became a member of the state House in a special election last year, survived a challenge by Penn Hills Mayor Pauline Calabrese in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
34th State House District
State Rep. Abigail Salisbury, D-Swissvale, won the nod over Ashley Comans. Salisbury, who won a special election in February 2023 to fill a vacancy after Democratic Party insiders nominated her, garnered 63.3% of the vote, while Comans, a Wilkinsburg school board member, ended with 36.8%. Comans had been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato.
55th State House District
Jill Cooper scores decisive win in GOP primary for 55th District House seat
First-term state Rep. Jill Cooper cruised to a commanding victory Tuesday night over challenger Jamie Lingg in the Republican primary race for the 55th District in northern Westmoreland County.
11th State House District
Mustello wins rematch of 2020 Republican primary to hold state House seat in Butler County
A rematch of the 2020 Republican primary for a state House seat in Butler County had the same result. State Rep. Marci Mustello, R-Butler Township, defeated challenger Ryan Covert of Oakland Township by a wide margin for the party’s nomination representing the 11th state House District.
45th State Senate District
Democrat Pisciottano, Republican Dintini will vie to succeed retiring Sen. Jim Brewster
Democrat Nick Pisciottano and Republican Jen Dintini will vie in November to replace retiring Democratic state Sen. Jim Brewster. Pisciottano, 34, a state representative from West Mifflin, cruised to victory in the Democratic primary over Makenzie White, 29, of Brentwood, a social worker and environmental consultant.

State Treasurer
Erin McClelland of Harrison wins Democratic nomination for state treasurer
Erin McClelland of Harrison has won the Democratic Party’s nomination for Pennsylvania state treasurer.
Attorney General
On the Democratic ballot, Eugene Depasquale, Pennsylvania’s former two-term auditor general, secured the nod with 35.6% of the vote. Among his competition: Jack Stollsteimer garnered 20.3%, Joe Khan landed 16%, Keir Bradford-Grey had 14.9%, and Jared Solomon ended up with 13%.
Among the Republicans, Dave Sunday won with 70.4% of the vote, with Craig Williams ended up with 29.6%.
Auditor General
Pa. auditor general’s race to pit a state rep against incumbent
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, a Philadelphia Democratic state lawmaker, got past his primary challenger, positioning him to take on incumbent GOP state Auditor General Timothy DeFoor in the Nov. 5 election.
Kenyatta, who also won a primary contest for re-election to his House seat, bested Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley. According to unofficial results from the Department of State, Kenyatta, who had the party’s endorsement, received 64% of the vote to Pinsley’s 36%.
DeFoor, 62, the former Dauphin County controller, was unopposed in his re-election bid in the Republican primary.
