The One Show star Alex Jones has revealed that her editor once told her off for “lying” in a breach of BBC guidelines – but she had a hilarious reason for doing so. The 47-year-old presenter, who is from Ammanford, shared the story on the latest episode of Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable.

During the first round of the show, which aired on Tuesday, April 23, Alex was asked to share a “historic misdeed” by host Mel. She subsequently told a story about being hypnotised by Paul McKenna nine years ago.

Alex shared: “Paul said, ‘I want to hypnotise you, but I want to do it as a pre-record so that then we can play it out on the show, and then you can react to seeing yourself hypnotised.’ Great. Cool. Well, that's brilliant. All right. And he started his hypnotic banter. Anyway, when we got to one, I thought, ‘Oh, I'm not hypnotised.’ So instead, in a split second, I made the decision to go with it.” Want less ads? The 47-year-old went on to reveal that the hypnotist started asking her to do “specific things”, including pretending to be a gardener and riding a horse at the Grand National – both of which she faked. She added: “I knew exactly what was going on, but it was too late. I was in too deep. I just didn't want to be impolite.” She said that following the pre-record, she had to have a chat with her editor. “He was like, ‘Oh my God, BBC guidelines, you've lied!’”

Alex recently returned to The One Show following a week-long holiday to Lanzarote with her husband Charlie Thomson and their three children Kit, Teddy, and Annie. Shortly after her return to the UK, her son Kit was taken into hospital.

The TV star paid tribute to "wonderfully kind" NHS doctors and nurses after her son Kit underwent a "little op" at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Posting to Instagram, she said: "Kit has been in for a little op this morning. Firstly, a HUGE thank [you] to the wonderfully kind nurses and doctors @chelwestft. Simply the best for paediatric, and also to @mykidsgoodreads. Kit chose a book which cheered him right up." Alex followed up her post about Kit with a picture of an individual, believed to be a staff member, alongside a series of books on a shelving unit in the hospital.
