Escondido police trying to determine how teen ended up with gunshot wound in his arm

Escondido police are trying to determine how a 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound in his arm Tuesday night.
The teen suffered a “through and through” gunshot wound in his arm shortly after 11:15 p.m., said police Sgt. Rhett Gann. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for the injury.
The victim initially told police that someone in a vehicle pulled up to him on Fifth Avenue near Escondido Boulevard and fired a shot, but police said later statements he gave were inconsistent. They are trying to determine what actually occurred, said police Lt. Ryan Hicks.
“We are getting incomplete information on the situation” and have no information on a suspect, Hicks said.
