Promising picturesque views out into the English Channel, the proposed flats in a redeveloped naval gunnery may seem an attractive proposition to first-time buyers or second-home hunters.

But, say the naturists who bare all on the beach it overlooks, prospective residents may be getting more than they bargained for. Eastney Beach in Portsmouth is one of only a handful of dedicated “clothing-optional” beaches on the south coast, and naturists fear for their future if the new development gets the go-ahead.

Barry Knell, 67, who has been visiting the beach for two decades, is worried that residents of the proposed development overlooking the area will complain “that there are naked people” outside their windows.
