The leader of Nottingham city council has apologised after three staff accessed a police file on the stabbing rampage in which three people were killed last summer.

A number of police officers have already been disciplined for viewing body-worn video or improperly accessing information about the fatal attack on the university students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19, and the caretaker Ian Coates, 65.

It has emerged that three council officers also accessed police systems to view information about the attack by Valdo Calocane, 32, who has paranoid schizophrenia. The trio were police-vetted and had access to sensitive systems for their work in the community protection service, which tackles anti-social behaviour and monitors CCTV.
