ALISON Hammond has shared a 'shame on you' message about being 'judged' over hosting For the Love of Dogs.

The beloved ITV series returned last week with the This Morning presenter Alison, 49, at the helm - replacing Paul O'Grady following his death.

She had received a mixed reception since the announcement of her as the new frontwoman, with ratings taking a nosedive too.

But in her latest activity on X, the bubbly Brummie has taken a swipe at those who doubted her.

She reposted a user's tweet reading, "All those people judging before it was even shown. Shame on you.

"It is about the dogs & I’m sure Paul would have loved his programme being carried on. Alison was brilliant."

Alison added, "This," followed by a dog and heart emoji.

After a mixed reception from viewers, Alison was back at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for a second time last week.

The programme's premiere episode received an average audience rating of 1.84m and reached 2m viewers at its peak.

According to ITV ratings, Paul gained at least double the amount of audience views, with an average audience rating of more than four million viewers in 2021.

Alison previously hit back at trolls who aimed at her replacing Paul after ITV bosses decided to continue the show.

She told The Sun's TV Mag: "I was actually surprised with how much I got for doing the show.

"I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved, and people were saying: ‘How can she do Love Of Dogs when she doesn’t have a dog? How does she love dogs when she doesn’t have a dog?’

"It’s like saying: ‘How can you love children when you haven’t got kids?’

"It’s such a flawed argument for me, and all I would say is: ‘If you don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it.’

"That’s what I would say to those trolls: ‘Don’t watch it then. If you don’t want to help Battersea, don’t watch it'."
