Plans for a new splash park in a Cambridgeshire town are unable to progress until funding is agreed. Proposals for a splash park in St Neots were approved in May 2023 by Huntingdonshire District Council.

The splash park would replace the Lido, which closed in 2003 leaving the site vacant. The plans include a toilet block, café and play equipment.

St Neots local Jon Easton said his grandmother was among those who "bought a brick" to fund the Lido when it was built. He said she used to take him there when he was a child in the summer, and they would spend all day at the pool.

Mr Easton said his grandmother would be "turning in her grave" to know the fate of the Lido. He said the plans for the splash park sounded "absolutely brilliant" but was concerned that they had not yet materialised.

St Neots Aquatic Leisure CIO has raised £185,000 towards the splash park and has asked St Neots Town Council for a grant of £650,000. The money would come from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) payments from new housing developments in the area.

A spokesperson for St Neots Town Council said: "Last summer the Council considered an updated funding request from St. Neots Aquatic Leisure and a number of questions were raised. Since then the Council has liaised with the SNAL, the Charity Commission and solicitors to address these matters and, having made substantial progress, will re-consider the funding request in due course.

"The project requires a significant sum and St Neots Town Council has a responsibility to fully consider any such request to the point where there is complete confidence that the facility is needed by its community, is deliverable, of good value and is sustainable for many years to come."
