To keep his skin issues in check, he revealed that he needs to use chemical exfoliants, like hydroxy acids, regularly.

He shared that he actually formulated Matter of Fact's Resurfacing + Hydrating Serum, $88, after his skin.

The best-selling item "effectively but gently resurfaces the skin, while niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and pine bark extract help to even out skin tone and soothe skin."

He explained that he needed something strong enough to keep his pores clean but gentle enough to use every day.

According to the product description, it "balances powerful yet gentle exfoliation with deep hydration to help achieve smoother, brighter, more radiant-looking skin - without the irritation."

SKINCARE MYTHS

Baek also touched on a few common skincare misconceptions.

My DIY face wash made my skin age backwards - my texture improved, pores shrunk, and complexion got glowy

A big one is that oily, acne-prone skin needs to be treated harshly to see improvement.

"I see so many people trying to 'scrub away' or 'dry out their breakouts only to suffer from red, flaky, irritated skin that breaks out even more," he said.

Baek added that he was guilty of this when he was younger.

He explained that all skin, including acne-prone skin, can benefit from a gentle approach.

The founder recommended including non-stripping cleansers and gentle moisturizers in your regimen.

It can "offset" irritation that sometimes comes with certain acne treatments.

Baek said another misconception is that darker skin tones don’t need to protect their skin from the sun.

"While more melanated skin types do tend to wrinkle less than lighter skin types, they also tend to suffer more from pigmentation issues," he explained.

They are often aggravated by unprotected sun exposure, so the CEO offered budget-friendly options.

But sun protection can be much more than sunscreen, so Baek suggested also wearing sun-protective clothing, like hats and face shields.
