Hertha in for Bowler

Josh Bowler is reportedly a target for Hertha BSC.

The winger, on loan at Cardiff from Nottingham Forest, is yet to play for his parent club, having been loaned out three times after they bought him from Blackpool in the summer of 2022.

He has two more years left at the City Ground, but it likely looks as though he will move on in the summer as he seeks regular game- time, particularly if Forest stay in the Premier League.

And German outlet Bild claim Bowler, 25, is top of a three-man winger shortlist, which includes Swansea City's Przemyslaw Placheta and Shakhtar Donetsk's Oleksiy Kashchuk.

Bowler has four goals and two assists for the Bluebirds this season.

Coach leaves quietly just months after appointment

Darren Davies has left Cardiff City, WalesOnline understands.

Davies, formerly the assistant of Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglu, was appointed to the club's coaching staff last autumn, with Cardiff looking to emulate a system which had been in place at Liverpool.

His focus was to bring through academy players into the first team, bridging the gap between age-grade and senior football while introducing training sessions on Thursdays for fringe first teamers and the best crop of academy talent.

Academy chief Gavin Chesterfield and first-team coaches were excited by the appointment, particularly following the opening of the new site in Llanrumney, as Cardiff looked to push through and maximise the potential of their young guns.

However, Davies, who had worked for Melbourne Victory, Brisbane Roar and Swansea, lasted little more than five months in the role and quietly left his post in February. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

Bulut: Joel Colwill thought he'd get his debut!

Erol Bulut said Joel Colwill was expecting to make his Championship debut last weekend, but instead watched on from the bench as Luey Giles and Raheem Conte were brought on for their league bows.

Colwll, 19 and Rubin's younger brother, of course, is one of the stars of the club's academy and has long been tipped to follow his sibling's path into the first team.

And it looked like he would get his chance last week, with Cian Ashford getting his first start and the other two introduced from the bench. However, he had to watch on as Ashford score that dramatic late winner to down Southampton. Bulut hopes this weekend he will make his debut.

"He was expecting to get minutes!" Bulut laughed when asked about Colwill. "I was seeing and feeling it also from him.

"But he will get his minutes this week or next week. So, let's see how and where, in which position, because in midfield we have players, but depending on how the game goes, I hope he can get minutes."

The youngster has stuck his hand right up this week, too, scoring twice and providing an assist during the under-21s' 5-1 hammering of Peterborough this week. Bulut was impressed.

"He scored twice, got an assist," the manager said of Colwill's midweek display. "We will have to see how the game goes.

"We will try to use young players again. My bench will be full of under-21s players, when you see how many injured players we have. I trust them and believe in them. They are the future of the club. When we see how three players played last week, I hope this is a good signal."
