The only PGA Tour-sanctioned team event on the calendar has reached its last leg. After two consecutive grueling weeks on the greens, starting with the Masters followed by the fifth signature event, RBC Heritage, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, at TPC Louisiana, turned out to be a fun gateway for the PGA Tour pros.

The New Orleans-based event has been around since 1958 and saw a drastic change in 2017 when it became a team event. With the change in the format, many other changes followed, such as the distribution of the winners cut from the prize money and the allocation of the FedEx points. They were no longer for only one person but were distributed equally between the players of the winning team.

What’s the winner’s team payout at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans? 

A total of 80 teams (160 golfers) teed up at TPC Louisiana to kick off the 8th edition of the Zurich Classic as a team event. Over the four days, the 1st and 3rd rounds were played as four-balls, in which the best score was taken into account. Whereas the second round was played in foursomes, the same foursomes format will be used on the fourth day as well, in which the teammates play alternate shots.

40 teams from the field could survive the 36-hole cut that came after two days of the competition. The winning team will get a sizable portion of the prize purse, which was elevated by $300,000 from last year’s 8.6 million to $ 8.9 million.

What’s more at stake at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans?

Usually, the players of any PGA Tour event are promised prize money, FedExCup points, shining silverware, and Official World Golf Ranking points. However, at the Zurich Classic, the OWGR points are not awarded to the winners. The Zurich Classic makes up for the absence of OWGR points by offering a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. On top of that, they will be eligible to play in the 2024 PGA Championship and next year’s invitational events like the Sentry and the PLAYERS Championship.

The field of the Zurich Classic has only 18 holes to decide the 2024 winning team. After three rounds, the competition is as tight as it gets, with only a one-stroke gap between the leaders, Zach Blair and Patrick Fishburn, and the solo second team consisting of Luke List and Henrik Nolander.
